Round 13 of the In Safe Hands Cup gets underway this weekend with some sides having players out on representative duties for the XXXX Queensland Rangers.
Ipswich and Valleys journey out to Laidley’s Recreation Reserve with a desperate Jets outfit on the hunt to regain their form.
The Tigers savaged Ipswich last Friday night at Suzuki Stadium leaving them sitting in sixth place, under a cluttered leader board. The Jets come up against a rested Valleys side who are two points above them in fifth on 26 points.
Valleys were outstanding against Wynnum Manly at Kougari Oval in Round 11 before their bye, with a 32-6 win led by Haydan Lipp who will not be there this weekend due to Rangers duties. However, they have a settled halves combination now in Aaron Clode and Rowan Klein. The Jets also have a six and seven taking the park who are familiar to each other’s game in Mikaere Beattie and Chastyn Conners.
Ipswich held off the Dolphins 36-28 in their last win in Round 10 and while Mark Bishop’s trademark poker face suggests all is well; they will need to be at their best against Valleys to stay in touch with the top five.
The rampaging Tigers host Wynnum Manly tomorrow in a top of the table shootout. The Tigers have amassed a five-game winning streak. Some of those results have had Easts put 50 or more on the scoreboard, with not all of those points coming from out wide. Forwards Andrew Thompson and Tekina Vailea know how to get across the line.
The Seagulls also have big men who are racking up meat pies. Brad Mana, John Te Reo and Corey Davis are matching it with prettier Seagulls out wide in the try scoring department. Wynnum Manly, once out on their own at the top of the table, have been joined by Easts and Redcliffe after the Seagulls second straight loss to the premiers Redcliffe last week, despite leading 12-6 at halftime.
Logan Brothers coach Steve Bretherton will still have mixed emotions after last week’s draw with the Panthers. The Brethren were outstanding against the quality side that the Panthers rolled out at Kev McKell Oval last Saturday.
Brothers are up against Redcliffe who returned to the winners circle last week, however, Bretherton has momentum on his side and Redcliffe’s Daniel Green is well aware, it is always a tough day at the office against LJ Waddups and his men. Green has the dynamic Mitch Wilson returning from his sojourn to the top grade to take on Waddups in what is shaping as a beauty at Davies Park on Sunday.
