The Round 15 bye did not slow down the Redcliffe Dolphins who came out on top against the Souths Logan Magpies at the Davies Park yesterday; securing a 19-12 win.

In a hard-fought match, the Phins effort was assisted by tries from Jonus Pearson, Curtis Johnston and Sam Anderson, while Tyson Gamble was successful with all three of his conversions.

Jack Ahearn topped off the match with a late field goal to seal his team's performance.

“I was really happy with the effort; the boys were playing hard, we scrambled well at times,” Dolphins coach Adam Mogg said.

“I think we missed a couple of opportunities with the footy, so we just got to get back on the training park and keep improving.”

The Magpies, who were also coming off a bye, kept up with their Redcliffe rivals for the most part; with forwards Simione Fatafehi and Jaydn Su’A crossing the line for a try each. Jamayne Isaako completed both of his conversions, but it was not enough to hold off their opponents.

The win keeps the Dolphins in third place on the Intrust Super Cup ladder, with only the PNG Hunters and Sunshine Coast Falcons ahead of them.

Despite the standings, Mogg was not willing to rest on his laurels and said there was plenty of hard competition coming up for his side.

“We haven’t achieved anything yet; there’s a long way to go in the footy season,” he said.

“I’m anticipating in the back end of the season we’re going to come up against some really strong squads with a lot of full-time athletes; so we just need to concentrate on improving and getting better at what we can control.”

The Dolphins now prepare for another road trip as they take on the Burleigh Bears on Sunday at Pizzey Park.

Meanwhile, Souths Logan will look to regain their momentum and snap their two-game losing streak when they visit BMD Kougari Oval on Saturday night to take on the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.
