Congratulations to the winners in this year’s Queensland Rugby League School Writing Competition on the topic What the Maroons Mean to Me.

In its inaugural year, the QRL received a number of outstanding entries from students in schools across the state.

Entrants were asked to submit a short story under the title “What the Maroons Mean to Me” – outlining their own experiences.

Members of the QRL History Committee led by chairman Kevin Brasch had a difficult time selecting the winners in the three categories due to the quality of the entries.

However, the winning stories in each age group are:

Year 7
Winner:
Matthew Lowther
Runner Up: Alex Spring
Third Place: Byron Magnus

Year 8-9
Winner: Rhyley Maclean
Runner Up: Ben Craig
Third Place: Jacob Howarth

Year 10-12
Winner:
Andre Jones-Dorr
Runner Up: Brayden Swain

All those named above have won themselves a Junior Maroon Membership Pack – while Matthew, Rhyley and Andre will all be invited to attend a Queensland Maroons training session as a special guest of the QRL.
