The Townsville Blackhawks held on to claim their third-straight win with a hard-fought 12-6 result against the Norths Devils in Round 17.

In a close match; there were only three tries being scored and all of those were in the first 20 minutes of the game.

The first try came to Carlin Anderson in only the second minute, after an orchestrated set play saw him reaching over the line.

Norths Devils levelled the scores soon after with a try to Javarn White in seventh minute – an impressive effort which saw him sprinting through to collect the ball.

But the Jonathan Reuben and Anderson combination struck again with an 80m try to Anderson after passing through both sets of hands.

The second half saw some great defence from both teams, with no extra points being scored.

The Indigenous Jerseys that were worn by Townsville are being auctioned online now with all profits going to development of Rugby League in North West Queensland.

After scoring freely in their Round 16 victory over Tweed Heads where they crossed for 10 tries; Norths for the most part were able to keep Townsville's attacking prowess at bay.

It was an admirable bounce back defensively from the Devils who went down 52-4 to Mackay Cutters last weekend, conceding 10 tries of their own in the heavy loss.

However; their inability to again score more than one try in the match cost them the chance to really challenge the Blackhawks.

This weekend, the Townsville side will sit out Round 18 with a bye; while the Devils will travel to Cairns to take on the Northern Pride.
