Game gone soft? Try tackling Fifita, Klemmer, says skipper
The biff might be all but gone from the game, but Maroons skipper Cameron Smith says rugby league is tougher than ever.
“For those people saying that the game’s not tough anymore because you can’t throw a punch or you can’t shoulder charge, come out next Wednesday and stand out in front of Andrew Fifita or David Klemmer, see if it’s not tough then," the champion hooker told reporters with a wry smile today, referring to bullocking Blues fowards.
Injuries
Smith says given that high-calibre players such as Greg Inglis, Matt Scott, Johnathan Thurston and Darius Boyd have been unavailable for all or part of the series, a win in 2017 would be the most satisfying in his Maroons career.
Billy Slater update
The skipper says he believes star fullback Billy Slater will be right to play on Wednesday after he rolled in ankle at training yesterday. "(It) looks extremely positive."
New faces
Smith also speaks about debutant Cameron Munster, and on how other new faces in this year's series have shaped up.
