Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma is one of rarest cancers in the world and there are only three known cases in Australia.

The family of Hine had not heard of it until the 25-year-old mother of four was diagnosed earlier this year.

Her son five-year-old, Manaia, plays rugby league and is coached by Kim Ingebrigsten – who as a father of four young children himself, was devastated for the family.

Hine was told that the cancer would not respond to chemotherapy or radiation treatment and was instead offered a place on an International Medical Trial.

Unfortunately, the trial medication did not work. After multiple surgeries, the oncologists discovered that not only were her existing tumours growing, but new ones were developing at the base of her skull and at the top of her spine, causing intense debilitating pain.

Due to the number of tumours, the doctors decided that further surgery for Hine would be of no benefit.

Upon hearing of her diagnosis, Ingebrigsten immediately resolved to do whatever he could to help the family; and having lived and worked his whole life in rugby league, he turned to the people he knows best, his rugby league family.

The Melbourne Storm, Manly Sea Eagles and Parramatta Eels have all provided auction items and a fundraising night will take place this Saturday (July 22) with all funds raised going to the family.

NRL players including current Maroon Matt Gillett, Daly Cherry Evans and Josh Hoffman, among others, had pledged items for a fundraising auction on the night, while the Brighton Roosters agreed to provide the venue free of charge.

Former New Zealand test player Sione Faumuina had agreed to be guest speaker for the night which will help raise vital funds for a family in need.
