Central Division clubs and leagues will once again #RizeUp in support of the domestic violence charity.
In 2016, all clubs and leagues participated in a dedicated round supporting the charity and raised money, awareness and donated household items that directly supported 92 Queensland families affected by domestic violence.
This weekend marks the return of RizeUp round and the Division is once again issuing a call to arms for all clubs and leagues to support those in need.
Central Division Education and Wellbeing manager Trish Drummond indicated that last year’s response was greater than expected and hoped that 2017 would see an even greater impact.
“Our clubs and leagues have always shown a willingness to help those in need,” Ms Drummond said.
“The Division is very proud of the partnership with RizeUp and I am sure everyone will again rise to the challenge and support the cause.”
The 2017 campaign was kicked off with a bang during ‘Get in the Game’ Country Week.
The Women in League committee – as part of the St George Rugby League Football Club – made a special presentation to RizeUp ambassador Petero Civoniceva during the Country Week event.
In front of a large crowd of local supporters, club secretary Majella Morris presented a cheque for $5000 in support of the charity.
Division Manager Glenn Ottaway said the significance of the donation showed the cause was one that was important to people and one that affects all communities in the state.
“The St George committee is very community-minded and their focus is always on things that are bigger than the game,” Ottaway said.
“They are definitely leaders in their community on a range of social issues.”
