With three rounds still left in the In Safe Hands Cup the top five is still uncertain.
Defending premiers Redcliffe (46) are four points clear at the top of the table and are one win away from securing the minor premiership.
The Panthers (42), Seagulls (40), Tigers (37), Diehards (38) and Jets (36) are yet to lock down a position to fill the remaining four slots.
Logan Brothers while out of contention, but could prove a handful for the Jets and the Tigers in their last two games. With the top five format, a top three finish provides two chances come semi-finals time to progress to the September 16 grand final.
Redcliffe were ruthless against Logan Brothers last Sunday at Dolphin Oval where Kyle Van Klaveren slotted nicely into the halfback position alongside five-eighth Mitch Wilson.
This weekend, the Dolphins will take on the Tigers who were defeated by the Seagulls last weekend.
Easts are in a precarious position on the table and will look to build from last week’s performance where they went down by eight points. However, the contest was well and truly alive until the end, going down to the wire.
The last time Dolphins and Tigers played back in Round 11 at Dolphin Oval; Easts took the game 38-24. However, in Round 2 at Suzuki Stadium, the visitors were too good, 36-6.
Valleys are also treading a fine line to the finals. They overcame a terrible first half against the Jets last week at the North Ipswich Reserve where they were down 20-0 at halftime. However, they won the second half 24-12, to take momentum into their clash with Wynnum Manly this weekend.
Wynnum Manly had to contend with a horror run with injuries in the backs department prior to last week, so the return of Paora Kemp at halfback was the shot in the arm coach Ron Troutman needed to overcome the Tigers.
West Mitchelton will host the Panthers and the Jets tomorrow afternoon. Wests are coming off a bye following their 38-20 win over Wynnum Manly the week before.
The Panthers came out of the blocks in the first half of that game and had to hold off the Seagulls to take the points, mainly through four tries to right winger James Olds.
Shaun Tupou returns to the halves alongside Luke Strasser and the pair will have the pleasure of taking a massive pack for a spin around Frank Lind Oval. They will however have some sizeable Jets speed bumps to get over in Rowan Winterfield and Fine-Callum Faingaa if the Panthers are to maintain second place on the ladder.
Ipswich, while having plenty of pace out wide to score points, also have their skipper Tu’u Maori who continues to put his name in the try scoring column. Maori, who has the ability to play prop to fullback, keeps crossing the chalk on a regular basis.
The Jets are yet to defeat the Panthers in 2017, with Wests taking Round 2 42-4 at Bishop Park, then a 16-8 win in Round 11 at The Reserve. Ipswich sit in sixth place and will make life tough for themselves with any further losses.
