Suncorp Cash Up Your Club winners

by QRL Media

Corey Parker - Suncorp CUYC2

After an astonishing number of entries and an extremely tough selection process, the winning Suncorp Cash Up Your Club junior rugby league clubs have been announced.

Back in May, Suncorp ambassador and Maroons legend Corey Parker and coach Kevin Walters launched the competition - a total of $20,000 cash from Suncorp to replace gear or upgrade facilities at three junior rugby league clubs around Queensland.

The response was enormous.

A total of 342 junior clubs were nominated for the major prize of $10,000 and two runner-up prizes of $5000 each. Entrants listed their club and nominated what club projects the money would be used for. Given that there are only 439 junior clubs in Queensland, to say the response was strong doesn’t quite cover it. But now, to the winners…

The Winners

Major prize winner – Winton Junior Rugby League Club

$10,000 Cash Prize

Runner-up winner – Wandoan Wildcats

$5000 Cash Prize

Runner-up winner – Redlands Rugby league Club

$5000 Cash Prize

Maroons coach Kevin Walters will visit Winton to present the Winton JRLFC with their $10,000 cash prize on Monday August 28, while Corey Parker will visit both runner-up clubs in the coming weeks. QRL Media will be there to watch the Origin stars (both once Queensland junior players themselves) present the clubs with their prizes.

After creating the competition specifically to support grassroots rugby league clubs and the community spirit that helps keep the clubs going, Suncorp management was blown away by the response to the initiative.

Suncorp Head of Customer Engagement & Sponsorships Terri Meadmore said the business was proud to play a small part in fostering junior rugby league in Queensland.

“We would like to congratulate the major prize-winner – Winton Junior Rugby League Club,” she said, “and the runner-up clubs Redlands and Wandoan. We look forward to seeing the outcome of the grants.”
