Griffith Logan and their student brothers the Griffith Dragons have sounded a warning to their Universities Rugby League Queensland rivals.

The two teams took out desperate wins last night to cement their spot in the URLQ finals next Wednesday.

At Logan, the Redbacks came back from the dead, overcoming a 20-6 halftime deficit to end the season of Australian Catholic University with a 30-24 victory.

ACU had all the running in the first half, with Rohan Fittock running in two tries as the visitors threatened to cause an upset.

But a Justin Fiso try straight after halftime reduced it to 20-12, and when Sam Vaughey got his second four-pointer, it was back to 20-18.

Shanan Goodman scored for ACU to make it 24-18 with 15 minutes to go, but tries to Ben Kelly and Wes Liaina in the next 10 minutes sealed Logan a victory and second spot on the ladder.

Logan will now play the Griffith Dragons, who ensured their spot in the top four with a 36-22 upset of minor premiers QUT Trouts.

Angus MacDougall scored twice as the Dragons secured third spot and a date with Logan at Meadowbrook on Wednesday.

It was an impressive victory as the Dragons rallied from 12-8 down at halftime.

QUT will have to defeat the University of Queensland Hounds to qualify for the URLQ grand final at Davies Park on September 13.

The Hounds saw off the Griffith Gold Coast Panthers down at Southport by 36-8.

Speedy fullback Chris Hansen nabbed a try as the Hound booked a knock-out semi-final with the Trouts at Bishop Park.
