The QRL North Queensland Sportstar Awards where held earlier this month in Bowen to celebrate the achievements of athletes from throughout the region.
Sponsored by the QRL’s Northern Division; it was a fantastic evening at the Merinda Hotel (just out of Bowen) that showcased all of the sports in NQ with nominees representing all areas of the region.
The QRL Northern Division were well showcased on the night with every speech mentioning and acknowledging the contribution of the Division; while many people, including local government representatives, thanked the Division for their involvement.
QRL Northern Division Manager Scott Nosworthy and Northern Division Chairman Leigh Anderson both made speeches on the night which highlighted the fact that rugby league is played in every community in North Queensland, and that the QRL was proud to be associated with the NQ Sportstar Awards.
For this year’s awards, the judging panel consisted of a broad cross section of the community and the results reflected a true representation of achievement.

Runner up: Brodie Mayocchi – Mixed Martial Arts (Cassowary Coast)

Winner: David Nicholas – Para Cycling (Whitsunday)
Runner up: Aaron Chatman – Athletics (Cassowary Coast)

Winner: Leanne Knox – Olympic Weightlifting (Whitsunday)
Runner up: Barry Morrison - Cricket (Townsville)
