Round 10 in review: Mal Meninga Cup

The finals race in the Mal Meninga Cup is wide open heading into the last round of the regular season.

Round 10 of the competition kept the finals hopes of a number of teams alive, with the stage set for some must-win blockbusters this weekend, including a perfectly timed showdown between the Wynnum Manly Seagulls and Northern Pride.

The Seagulls are sitting in the crucial sixth spot on the ladder at the moment - the cut off for finals - after a commanding win in Round 10, beating Mackay 32-18.

But sitting right behind them in seventh spot, separated only by six for-and-against points, is the Northern Pride, who kept their finals campaign kicking with a strong 38-10 win over Norths Devils.

These two teams will meet in Round 11, with a victory to either likely to secure the winning team a place in the finals.

Sunshine Coast, sitting in eighth, are also still a threat. Sitting on 12 points alongside Wynnum Manly and Northern Pride, the Falcons earned a narrow 26-20 win over Townsville in Round 10 to keep themselves within the mix.

At the top end of the table, the competition-leading Tweed Seagulls remain undefeated, flexing their muscle with a 40-16 win over the Ipswich Jets.

They ran in eight tries to three, with eight different players scoring, showing their strike power from across the park.

The third-placed Jets meanwhile are a lock for finals footy but will take a much-needed break to recoup from the loss with a bye this weekend.

Meanwhile, the reigning premiers in the Redcliffe Dolphins also asserted their dominance in this year's competition with a 34-8 win over the Clydesdales in Round 10.

Redcliffe Dolphins captain: Brian Pouniu

Cyril Connell Cup-winning captain Brian Pouniu scored a double playing at centre in his elevation to the Mal Meninga Cup side.

The second-placed Dolphins will wrap up their regular season in Round 11 with a meeting with the Townsville Blackhawks on Sunday.
