For many, refereeing is a challenging and rewarding pastime.

For some others, refereeing will lead to a new career and the chance to travel the country and maybe even the world. In many ways, the opportunities for our match officials mirror the Greatest Game of All’s player pathways.

Like our leading players, referees are training harder than ever before and are striving to improve their skills and fitness. Programs like the QRL Referees’ High Performance Unit are driving this progress.

This innovative Unit provides expert coaching and specialist training for more than 80 of the state’s leading match officials. High Performance and Academy members officiate at all levels of the game, from local competitions through to the Meninga Cup, Hastings Deering Colts, Intrust Super Cup and the NRL.

Under the guidance of Eddie Ward and John Topp, more and more Queensland match officials are moving into NRL full-time and part-time squads.
