Avondale raced into the 2013 grand final with a convincing win over last years grand finalist Miriam Vale.

The Tigers ran in nine tries to three in their 52-14 victory at Tegege. Halfback Andrew Filo led his team around the paddock with a flawless kicking game that kept turning Miriam Vale around during the match.

Due to a broken hand, Miriam Vale were without player/coach Aaron Causton who always leads from the front. The Magpies were also missing Rhys Plater, Mark Hines, Adam Hansen and Jordan Kellet.

Club president Glenn Cox, who missed last years finals after breaking his leg, tried to rally his boys to match the Tigers but Avondale were just too strong on the day. Centre Corey Chapman scored three times for the Tigers with a solid performance in attack and defence.

The Tigers have not made a grand final since losing to Gin Gin at Gin Gin in 2009. The Tigers will return to Gin Gin for this years grand final against a strong Agnes Water Marlins. The Marlins, in only their second year in the NDRL competition, have fought for a place in the biggest game of the year.

The small coastal community had no sporting team two years ago until a group of rugby league fans got together and built a club from the ground up to made a GF in only their second season. The town will be decked out this week in the Marlins club colours.

In the first game a depleted Gin Gin took on South Kolan with the Hawks scoring 15 tries to three. Both teams only had 11 players with Gin Gin missing so many due to injury late in the season. Out of the 11 players for the Hawks, nine of them scored tries in their 80-16 thumping of South Kolan.

Shaun Casey and Greg Zahner missed crossing the try line but were happy just to get a win.

Second rower Phil Lindsay opened the campaign for the Hawks with a busting run over the top of the Sharks before Robert Geary and Brandon Galea scored in quick succession, taking the score to 16-0 in the very early stages. Fullback Galea finished with five tries and kicked four conversions.

The 2013 Wide Bay Australia NDRL Grand Final will be held at Gin Gin on Sunday, August 25. To kick off the day there will be a junior game at 11.30am against visiting Burnett Heads Sea Eagles who helped Gin Gin out when they lost everything in the January floods. At 1pm Gin Gin, will take on Miriam Vale for the Patrons Cup with Agnes Water v Avondale in the main game at 2.45pm.

All the best to the four teams .
