WOMEN’S rugby league has taken centre stage of late following the success of the Australian Jillaroos v New Zealand Kiwi Ferns Test match during the Four Nations and the more recent Tri-Series at the Auckland Nines.

QRL TV spoke with Queensland-based Jillaroos players Heather Ballinger and Ali Brigginshaw and skipper Steph Hancock after their first game of the tournament.

Always tough to beat, the Kiwi Ferns claimed the series 2-1 – but putting the result aside; both teams were thrilled with the coverage and reception of the matches, with all three games being played in front of big crowds. The games were televised on Pay TV.

The women’s game will again been in the spotlight this week when the Indigenous Women’s All Stars take on the Women’s All Stars in a curtain raiser match before the NRL’s main event on Friday, February 13.

The game will kick off at 5.35pm (QLD time) and will be streamed live via NRL.com (follow this link).

The Under 16 Murri v Under 16 Koori match will kick off at 4pm (QLD time) and will also be streamed via NRL.com (follow the above link).

Friday will also see the launch of the Queensland Rugby League’s inaugural Women’s Leadership Seminar – an event which will focus on lifting the participation of women into positions of leadership within sport

Focusing on female staff, administrators and volunteers from a variety of sporting clubs and associations, this seminar works to build confidence, resilience and provide practical tools to heighten the capacity to influence change in a male dominated arena.

The Women’s Leadership Seminar will be staged as part of the QRL’s biennial Administration Conference.

If you are not attending, but are interested in learning more, QRL Media will be updating www.qrl.com.au with some great content, or you can follow the developments in real time on social media via #QRLwomen.
