After Friday’s devastation of Cyclone Marcia, the Rockhampton & District Junior Rugby League has advised that some of the round 2 games set down to be played last weekend will instead be played this week.
The RDJRL and the clubs have made the decision to go ahead with games this weekend to give the children and parents an outlet after last weekend’s Cyclone events and clean up.
We see this as an opportunity to get out and enjoy the kids playing football and take their minds off what has happened.
We know the clubs have been working with families to assist with the clean-up of properties. Families of volunteers have been working very hard at their local clubs assisting in the clean-up of fields so the kids can get back to training and playing.
Unfortunately due to St Brendan’s boarders being away; Yeppoon and Cap Coast Brothers are unable to field teams in any grade this week, and those fixtures will be rescheduled to a later date to be advised by the League.
Most of the grounds have reported damage to trees surrounding the fields and there are some concerns on the field lighting systems. Until they have all been approved to return to normal operation, the RDJRL will advise the days, times & grounds for next week’s round early in the week.
The RDJRL wish all families a speedy recovery, though we know that some homes and businesses have been adversely affected by last Friday’s events.
