Brothers defeated Swifts Bluebirds 42-28 in an enthralling Ipswich Rugby League Mayor Paul Pisasale A Grade Cup game at Llewellyn Motors Field on Sunday.

Right from the start of the match the game was played from end-to-end, and it was Brigg Hille who opened the scoring for Swifts in the early stages.

Both teams were using their backlines well, and it was good use of the backs that allowed Vincent Seve to score for Brothers in the 16th minute as Brothers took a 6-4 lead.

But in the 28th minute Sioni Kai scored to put the Bluebirds back in front 8-6.

Swifts' lead didn't last long when two quick tries put Brothers back in front 16-8.

Such was the nature of the game that Swifts were able to grab the lead back by halftime when Tele Salasa and Oti Oti scored to give the Bluebirds an 18-16 lead.

Brothers got off to a perfect start in the second-half when a 40/20 got them into prime attacking position.

The Brethren made the most of a golden opportunity when Jake Redman scored in the set after the 40/20 to put Brothers back in front 22-18.

Just four minutes later the lead had changed yet again when Swifts fullback Nathan Jones ran onto a well-timed inside-pass before slicing through Brothers' defence to score.

Two minutes later the lead was back with Brothers after Cameron Picker scored, but a try to Sherick Hemopo got Swifts level at 28-all.

The Bluebirds went close to scoring a couple of times, but it was Brothers who would break the even scoreline with tries to both wingers, Sam Pita and Vincent Seve, giving the Brethren a 38-28 lead.

Right on the stroke of fulltime Brothers winger Sam Pita took an intercept and scored a long-range try, giving Brothers a 42-28 win.
