Some halftime words of encouragement from coach Jason Gainey spurred Logan Brothers to a come-from-behind 30-24 victory over Easts Tigers on Saturday.

Logan Brothers trailed 12-10 at the break but posted four-second half tries to run away with the match – their sixth win of the season.

When asked about the message in the sheds, Gainey was didn’t reveal much.

But whatever the words, they worked.

“We took some poor options in the first half when got down there and went sideways a bit too much before we’d earned the right,” Gainey said.

“So we just wanted to get back to going forward through the middle and then shift to an edge.”

When it came to forwards, there were none more impressive than Terry Kepu.

The prop earned selection in last weekend’s South-East Queensland Poinsettias squad and continued his good form upon returning to the BRL.

“Two years ago he was running around in the Open 3s I think… a mate of mine sent him here, he got player of the competition in the Second Division last year,” Gainey said.

“He came back with a bit of a spring in his step, his form’s been great.”

The result came without inspirational captain Trevor Exton, who was sidelined with an ankle injury.

After a three-week absence, Gainey expects Exton to return at lock forward next weekend.

Following the sudden loss of Easts Tigers talent Grant Giess, players, staff and fans held a moments silence before the game.

In a show of support, players from both sides engaged in a reciprocated three cheers afterwards.
