Goodna Eagles defeated Norths Tigers 38-26 in the Ipswich Rugby League Mayor Paul Pisasale A-Grade Cup on Sunday.

In the early stages of the match Goodna showed class in attack and defence while it seemed Norths were struggling to get any rhythm in attack.

After 21-minutes Goodna had established a 16-nil lead.

When Norths finally scored in the 28th minute to cut Goodna's lead to 16-6, the Eagles hit straight back to extend their lead to 20-6.

With two minutes remaining until the halftime break, Anthony Noa scored for Goodna slicing through out wide to extend the Eagles' lead to 26-6.

Norths came out in the second half looking much better in attack and in the 44th minute a slick well-worked back line play resulted in a try to Tigers winger Anava Fesolai.

When Kane Fuller scored for the Tigers in the 52nd minute it looked like a comeback was on the cards, but just four minutes later Jesse Chubb powered his way over to score for Goodna getting the Eagles back to a 16-point lead.

Joel Bennett scored for Goodna in the 60th minute when he put in a well-weighted grubber kick before regathering it himself extending his team's lead to 38-16.

Norths scored in the 65th minute to give the Tigers faithful some hope of a late comeback.

That hope grew even more when Anava Fesolai scored another try for the Tigers getting Norths back within two converted tries of the lead.

Norths refused to give up as they started to create some opportunities late in the match, they nearly scored on a few occasions but Goodna's defence held strong.

Despite Norths' late opportunities to score, Goodna's defence raised in intensity to ensure the Eagles victory as Goodna defeated Norths 38-26.
