The SEQ Women’s competition continues this weekend with Round 7 games kicking off tomorrow.

One of the new teams this year are the UQ Women’s team who will host their first home game on Saturday against Inala.

Many women who have joined this inaugural team are still learning the game, but there's no shortage of passion, excitement and enthusiasm for the game they call 'the greatest of all'.

UQ Hounds Coach and President, Marcel Noronha said the idea for the team came about at last year’s UQ Market Day, where girls came up to the rugby league stall expressing an interest in playing rugby league.

“Initially, we had about six girls on our group email list. I then went around to girls I knew who played other sports to see if they were keen to give it a go.

“Fast forward to our first training session this year and we had 11 women turn up – I thought to myself this might work.”
