The Wynnum Manly Seagulls Rugby League Football Club have today announced Jon Buchanan’s contract as the club’s Head Coach will not be renewed at the conclusion of the 2016 season.

The decision was made following a restructure of the role, and both the coach and the club agreed to part ways at the conclusion of Mr Buchanan’s current contract.

Mr Buchanan has been the head coach of the Seagulls since 2013 and in that time has taken the Intrust Super Cup team to consecutive finals series and secured back-to-back Club Championships in 2014 and 2015.

In 2014, Mr Buchanan was the Intrust Super Cup Coach of the Year and during his tenure has seen the likes of Jake Granville and Mitchell Frei progress to the NRL.

The Chief Executive Officer of Wynnum Manly Seagulls Hanan Laban said Mr Buchanan had been a popular member of the Seagulls.

“Jon lives and breathes the values which we hold dear at Wynnum Manly,” Mr Laban said. “He genuinely cares about our players and the club.

“Jon is very well-liked and well-respected by everyone at Wynnum Manly. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours, where I know he will achieve further success.”
