Top flight rugby league is headed to North Stradbroke Island this weekend with the match-up between Wynnum Manly and Tweed Heads in their Round 3 Intrust Super Cup game.
The game at Stradbroke Sharks on Sunday (March 19) will showcase some of the state’s best rugby league talent in what many consider to be the second best rugby league competition in the world.
The day will also include appearances from rugby league legend Steve Renouf as well as fun family initiatives and curtain raiser junior games.
Wynnum Manly Seagulls CEO Hanan Laban said it was a fantastic opportunity for the Seagulls to engage with its wider community in the Redlands.
“(It is also) a chance to promote some very positive messages, including Indigenous Recognition, Redland City Tourism, and rugby league participation,” Laban said.
In addition to the Sunday game, Deadly Choices and the NRL have teamed up with both Intrust Super Cup sides to put on a community day for anyone wishing to attend on Saturday (March 18).
NRL Development will be hosting a FREE clinic from 11am - 2pm, which will include coaching from both Cup sides as well as former Australian, Queensland Maroons and Broncos player and Deadly Choices ambassador Jharal Yow Yeh.

In addition to the clinic, Deadly Choices be hosting fun inflatable games, arts & crafts, face painting, community stalls as well as providing healthy lunches for those attending the day.
The weekend is strongly supported by both the Redland City Council and Deadly Choices in addition to a number of other businesses on the island including the Allure Resort and Stradbroke Ferries.
Hosts the Straddie Sharks and Indigenous community groups Yulu-Burri-Ba and Qyac have been also instrumental in bringing the event to the island.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the match would continue Redland City’s reputation as an events hotspot and build economic and community ties.
“It is fantastic to see an event that promotes positive messages about reconciliation and healthy lifestyles held in what can only be described as one of the most beautiful locations in Queensland, North Stradbroke Island,” she said.
“You only have to look at the faces of local kids at these football games to know how much these events mean to them and Council is proud to support the match and the broader messages it represents.”

Both days are FREE to attend for all.
Both events are Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco FREE events.
