Finally, Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast has received much needed rain buy unfortunately the thunderstorms caused a few headaches for organisers of the weekend’s games in Round 5 of the Rockhampton and District Junior Rugby League.

Despite the wet weather, some good footy was played for the games that could be played.

In the Under 13 game at Emu Park, both sides were looking to bounce back from last week’s defeats. In a high-scoring affair, Norths got home by eight against a determined Emus outfit.

Due to the thunderstorms around the area, both Under 14 games at the coast were called off at halftime due to lightning.

In the other game, the two high flying sides of the competition went head to head at Gracemere with the Cubs remaining at the top of the table with a strong win.

The Fitzroy’s v Brothers game at Browne Park was a wet affair with both sides prepared to throw the ball around in an entertaining affair.

A depleted Brothers side just fell short of the Sharks who scored some very entertaining tries.

If fans thought the previous game was entertaining, the Under 16 Sharks and Brothers teams decided to put on another great game.

Brothers led at half time but a great come back from the Sharks took this game down to the wire with the Brethren getting home by six.

In the Under 18 age group, as predicted the game between Emu Park and Norths was a tight affair.

The wet weather may have stifled the two teams’ attack which meant defence was key.

The Emus continue their winning way with an eight-point win.

GAMES TO WATCH IN ROUND 6

Venturing into the second half of the season, all teams are now looking to consolidate positions with a break after next weekend’s rounds due to school holidays.

The Under 13s Brothers White v Emu Park game should be a close game. Both sides are coming off defeats on the weekend and will want to get the victory to get some momentum and keep in touch with the teams ahead on the ladder.

The Under 14 game between Brothers and Yeppoon should be a great match. Brothers are coming off a hard loss to Gracemere last weekend and Yeppoon were in control of their match against Cap Coast before bad weather stopped play. Both sides like to attack and on a good surface, there should be plenty of points on offer.

In the Under 15s, last week’s winners Norths and Fitzroy’s square off. Both sides have plenty of big men up front and depending on which forward pack lays the foundation, either side could run away with this game. There will be plenty of tough defence and with the speed out wide, plenty of points could be scored.

The Brothers Blue and Yeppoon Under 16 game will be as close as it gets. Brothers paved the way with a strong win over Fitzroy’s last week while Yeppoon unfortunately didn’t get a game due to the rain. Yeppoon have been there about all year and if Brothers don’t show the same determination they showed on Friday night, Yeppoon could get away with this game.

The Under 18 Emu Park v Cap Coast game should be a great spectacle. Both sides have plenty of speed and no nonsense, tough forwards. This game will cap off a great night at Browne Park.
