Pride bounce back with win over Bears

by QRL Media

Burleigh travelled north to take on the Pride in Round 5 desperate to put right their last-gasp loss to Souths Logan last weekend, but were unable to overcome the home side who claimed an 18-6 win.

It was a welcome return to the winners circle for the Pride following their disheartening loss to a strong Easts Tigers outfit in Round 4.

Khan Ahwang was in good form for the home side and scored all but four of their points (a leaping effort from Justin Castellaro earned him a try), crossing the chalk in each half and successfully converting all three of his side’s tries for a personal tally of 14 points.

He is now equalled fifth on the Leading Points Scorers tally with Tony Tumusa of the Capras with 38 points.

It was another difficult day out for the Bears who again found it hard to find points – but Sami Sauiluma did make sure he capitalised on a Pride error loss to their line, shoving aside defenders to put the ball down for a first half try.

In next week’s XXXX Rivalry Round matches, the Burleigh Bears will face off against the Tweed Heads Seagulls with sides looking for their first win.

The Pride will again be at home and will host the Townsville Blackhawks.
