Defence on display as Pride edge Tweed Heads

Defence was the order of the day at Barlow Park on Saturday night, as the Northern Pride squeaked by with a 6-4 victory over the Tweed Heads Seagulls.
The Pride’s Jordan Biondi-Odo got the game started early with a try in the fourth minute after the Seagulls could not handle a Ryan Ghietti kick, with the five-eighth pouncing on the loose ball to score.
The successful conversion by Khan Ahwang proved vital in the end, and gave the Pride a 6-0 lead at the break.
The Seagulls would eventually get on the board with a try of their own from Peter Lee who reeled in a Lindon McGrady pass. The Gulls got into good scoring position following a strong run from forward Ben Nakubuwai who represented Fiji in their Pacific Test match last weekend.
However, Michael Burgess was not able to land the difficult conversion attempt – with his kick on target, but just falling short.
The low-scoring affair was the Pride’s fourth win of the season, and they sit at 10th in the ladder.
The Pride will now prepare for a trip to Davies Park next Sunday, to take on the South Logan Magpies who are coming off a 22-6 win over the Townsville Blackhawks.
While this was another loss for Tweed Heads – they can take some positives from the match, with the side only giving up the one try following their heavy Round 9 loss to the Sunshine Coast.
The Seagulls will aim to turn their fortune around next weekend when they host Easts Tigers at Piggabeen next Sunday.
