Round 9 of the In Safe Hands Cup Brisbane Rugby League A Grade competition has three games that will go down to the wire.

Poinsettias coach Craig Rogers will be looking closely at players named in a 23-man squad to somehow trim it back to the 19 he will send to the QRL State Carnival on the weekend June 2-4.

Ipswich Jets v Logan Brothers at North Ipswich Reserve – Saturday 1.15pm

The Ipswich Jets host Logan Brothers and come into this game having had the bye last weekend. They will be keen to play some footy after sitting out Round 8 and their opponent will be just as to hit the paddock after they produced one of their best against the high-flying Seagulls at Civic Park last week, going down in a thriller 20-14.

Coach Steve Bretherton has the squad that can take the points against any side, provided they play to their potential for 80 minutes. Jets boss Mark Bishop is in the same boat with his fleet. Both sides need a win to stay in touch with the Top 5.

Valleys Diehards v Easts Tigers Emerson Park – Saturday 3pm

Valleys are coming off a heavy defeat at the hands of last year’s premiers Redcliffe. Don Gailer’s men responded to his halftime chat to put a better 40 minutes out on the park than the first.

Tigers coach Dave Krause gave his side the right message at half time. Easts also were shell-shocked from the opening half of their clash with the Panthers at Suzuki Stadium, Langlands Park. However, the home side completed an outrageous comeback on the back of Brandon Downey’s four-try effort to bank the two competition points in the 78th minute. The Tigers have now posted 98 points in their last two fixtures, but a soggy track awaits both sides at Emerson Park so points will be hard to come by.

The Redcliffe Dolphins at the moment are the form side of the In Safe Hands Cup. They flew out of the boxes against a very good Valley’s side last week and Poinsettias coach Craig Rogers has named 11 Redcliffe players in his squad.

Coach Daniel Green broke his pregame interview hoodoo with a near perfect first half at home last Saturday night and then held off the Valleys reply in the second stanza. Redcliffe have an outstanding backline and if allowed to run free, will rack up another win. The Panthers need to find the form they had in the first five rounds in this Top 3 dog fight on Sunday afternoon at Redcliffe. Wests will have to do it without playmaker Ollie Olds who has a season-ending knee injury. Howver coach Wayne Weekes has former Dolphin Ash Harawira in his side to extract some Phin knowledge.

Wynnum Manly have the Bye.
