The Toowoomba Rugby League, Toowoomba Regional Council and Hutchinson Builders have turned the sod to mark the start of the new TRL administration building's construction.
The project to build a new home for the Toowoomba Rugby League, housing the TRL executive, QRL and NRL staff and volunteers, has been in the pipeline for some time and is now a reality after acquiring a 10-year lease from council.
The new office is at Willowburn Park in North Toowoomba.
'There is a community benefit here'
TRL Chairman Brian Gilroy said he was excited about the new building after being nomads around Toowoomba for a while.
“We are very excited for the new building and even though it’s been a while coming, it’s somewhere permanent where we can set up a professional office,” Gilroy said.
“When the project is finished, it will be great as it will let us do our job even more professionally to service our sport.”
'It's a win for everyone'
Hutchinson Builders and the Toowoomba Regional Council helped the plan come to reality and Cr Geoff McDonald believed the new office building wouldn't just benefit Rugby League.
“There is a community benefit here (more) than just having an office for Rugby League as the area is part of the Gowrie Creek Corridor and will service many aspects such as car parking and sporting fields,” Cr McDonald said.
“This could be a feature corridor as people can park their cars and ride their bikes, so it's a win for everyone.”
Hutchies' Rod Weymouth was also extremely pleased with the project as their business had been involved with Rugby League for many years as the TRL A Grade naming rights partner.
The building was expected to be finished in about two months, just before the TRL finals series.
