The Norths Devils have started the FOGS Colts Challenge on the right foot, and are undefeated in the first three rounds.
Their latest match saw them beat the Sunshine Coast Falcons 30-24 at Bishop Park on Sunday afternoon, to head to the top of the standings.
“The Falcons are a good side, and they always play with a lot of energy, and they always show up with a good attitude,” Devils coach Craig Kennedy said.
The Norths scored by committee after getting tries from Joseph McGuire, Kalemb Hart, Justin Cridland, Regan Glynn and Kobe Hetherington.
Bailey Hartwig also showed deadly accuracy after completing all five of his conversions.
The Falcons kept up in the attacking stakes with tries to Liam Taylor, Jake Egan, Jack Wright and Jacob Boyce, along with Taylor completing all four of his conversions. Despite their will to score, it just was not enough to beat the surging Devils.
“It was a tight game in the end, and it came right down to the finish of the game in the last few minutes, but we managed to hang on and get the job done,” Kennedy said.
According to Kennedy, the success of his Colts squad comes from the simple gameplan they have employed, and his team's ability to step up and do what’s expected of them.
“To be honest the whole team is doing a really good job,” Kennedy sad.
“We don’t have anyone that’s standing out because everyone is doing their job. We’ve had a few injuries along the way, but the guys coming in to fill those jobs they do those jobs really well.”
The Devils now prepare to host the Tweed Heads Seagulls at Bishop Park on Sunday, June 4th. Kickoff is at 1.30pm.
“We have a good respect for Tweed Heads, I think they’re a really good side on their day when they’re on they’re a dangerous side,” Kennedy said.
“We’ll be going in with the same sort of attitude to the game as in our last few weeks.”
The Sunshine Coast Falcons will look to get back to their winning ways as they go back home Saturday, June 3, to match up with the Ipswich Jets. Kickoff for that match is at 12.45pm.
