For the first time since the Brisbane Rugby League competition was reformed, Friday night footy is on with the In Safe Hands Cup’s three fixtures spread across three days this weekend.
Tonight, the Easts Tigers will host the Ipswich Jets at Suzuki Stadium at 7.30pm for game one in Round 12.
As has been the trend all year, a team has strung together a winning streak at some stage.
The Tigers are that side at the moment. Shooting for their fifth straight victory, their last loss was to the Seagulls in Round 6, 26-10 at BMD Kougari Oval.
Ipswich had built some momentum until the Panthers went to North Ipswich Reserve last week.
The last time Easts and the Jets played, Ipswich came back from 24-10 at halftime to take it, 42-30.
With the dazzling ability in both sides to score tries, another 72 points may well be put on the Suzuki Stadium scoreboard. Both sides have named a relatively unchanged line up from Round 11.
The Panthers are finally back at home on Saturday when they will take on Logan Brothers. The Panthers early season form returned last week against the Jets.
Logan have had an extended break due to two byes. The Brethren, after their last break, put it to Wynnum Manly (Round 8) and Ipswich (Round 9), and coach Steve Bretherton will be looking for that same commitment to return against Wests.
Panthers coach Wayne Weekes has promoted utility Ash Harawira to the starting 13 to create havoc in the middle of the park.
Logan will have halves Cameron Boga and LJ Waddups behind a pack that is hungry for a win. Both sides were locked in a ding-dong of a clash at Davies Park in Round 5 before a Panthers comeback got Wests home 34-22.
Sunday’s clash between the Wynnum Manly and the Redcliffe at Kougari Oval will be a ripper. The Seagulls will look for a massive improvement this time around. The last time the Dolphins went to Kougari Oval was in last year’s qualifying final. Redcliffe were white and red hot that night. Both coaches are looking to bounce back after losing their last round games, for Redcliffe it was their second in a row.
Redcliffe were too good in Round 5 taking the two points at Dolphin Oval, 26-6.
The ‘Phins have a relentless forward pack led by Nathan Watts and Taylor Brown. They will need to be at their aggressive best for their visit to Wynnum.
The Seagulls have a huge starting pack plus a massive bench, with the inclusion of Corey Davis.
Redcliffe will have their hands full with Wynnum’s back three and coach Ron Troutman’s’ weaponry includes winger Christian Mika and Hayden Crowley plus Benaiah Bowie at fullback.
