Wounded warrior Johnathan Thurston shoots through a grubber.

North Queensland Toyota Cowboys co-captain Johnathan Thurston will not play in Saturday afternoon’s Round 16 National Rugby League match against the Penrith Panthers at 1300SMILES Stadium.

He was originally named to take part in his 300th NRL game earlier this week.

Thurston had scans on his right shoulder today, the results of which are not yet available.

Regardless of the scan results, Cowboys coach Paul Green has decided to rest Thurston from the Panthers match.
