After suffering a shock loss against the Tweed Heads Seagulls last weekend, the PNG Hunters will be looking to make amends when they travel to Cairns to take on the Pride tomorrow afternoon. Despite some indifferent form of late, the Pride boast a winning tally at home against the Hunters, having claimed both games played at Barlow Park previously. It is always a good rivalry when these two sides meet in Cairns – with plenty of supporters for the Hunters showing up to the game to create a healthy atmosphere. The home side have lost their past four games – but they have never lost five in a row, a statistic they would like to keep intact. However, with talismanic skipper Ase Boas back in action for the visitors – it will be a challenge.

Both teams had last weekend off with a bye – so should be refreshed for tomorrow night’s match in Rockhampton. Both sides are also coming off Round 14 losses; so will look to this game to regenerate their form. The Tigers go into the encounter as heavy favourites with a dominating head-to-head record. The CQ side have only won one of their past 10 games played against the Tigers – a run that also includes one drawn result. The Capras have also only been able to come out on top in one of their past 10 matches played on home soil (against Burleigh in Round 3); while Easts have good form on the road; winning four of their past five away games. In a week that was highlighted by a cracking State of Origin game; both clubs would have been cheering on the efforts of Tim Glasby, who played 98 games of Intrust Super Cup; starting out at CQ before heading to Storm feeder club Easts.

Have the Wynnum Manly Seagulls turned the corner in their season? After struggling earlier in the year and suffering a six-game losing streak which had them at the lower end of the ladder – they come into this week’s match against the Falcons with back-to-back wins under their belt. The Sunshine Coast were halted in their tracks in their quest to win seven in a row last weekend by the Townsville Blackhawks who impressed in their seven-tries-to-three 36-14 victory. The Falcons will be feeling positive about making their return to the winners circle; having claimed the honours in the past three games played between the two sides. This will be a big match for experienced halfback Mat Seamark (previously with Redcliffe) who will become the 15th player to reach 200 Cup games. He also only requires three more points to bring up 1300 in the competition. Gulls back Daniel Ogden requires two more tries to break Nathanael Barnes all time Cup record of 135.

Both the Bears and Jets are coming off the bye so will be nice and rested up for what looms as an important clash for the visiting side who are just outside the top six with seven wins so far this season. The Bears are currently in 13th with four wins, but will have a good feeling of adding to that tally, given their healthy head-to-head advantage over their rivals. However, the Jets do have four wins and a draw from the past seven games played at Pizzey Park. Originally named as a reserve, former skipper Jamal Fogarty is set to make his debut for the Gold Coast Titans after playing one game for the Bears since returning from Parramatta last weekend. There will be a number of achievements to celebrate during this match, with Bears forward Darren Griffiths to feature in his 100th Cup game for the Bears and his 164th overall (previously with Burleigh). Referee Tim Rutherford will also achieve a key milestone and will take the whistle for his 100th Cup game. Two of the competition’s leading teams go head-to-head on Sunday when the Magpies play host to Redcliffe. Both teams had last weekend off with a bye; with the Dolphins coming into this game with a strong win over the Tigers under their belts; while the home side pushed PNG Hunters all the way at National Football Stadium, with only poor goal-kicking costing them a share of the points. The Davies Park club have enjoyed strong results at home this season and have won four of their past five games in front of their fans. Redcliffe however will be aiming to arrest a lack of form on the road in this game, having lost their past three away games. When the two teams last met in Round 9, it was a dominant 52-12 result to the Phins with both Troy Giess and centre Thomson Teteh (who has been named this week) scoring doubles.

Last weekend, the Tweed Heads Seagulls reiterated the fact that you cannot take any team lightly when they upstaged the top-of-the-table PNG Hunters at Port Moresby. And while they showed great effort and commitment to again produce “the upset of the year” after previously achieving that by downing Redcliffe in Round 12 – coach Aaron Zimmerle would be craving consistency from his side. That win at Piggabeen their first home victory there in 10 games. They face a big test on Sunday against the Townsville Blackhawks who played themselves into form with their strong win over the Falcons last weekend. The Blackhawks outclassed Tweed Heads 48-18 at home earlier this season, and will be aiming to bring the Gulls down a peg on Sunday. With his second-half try last week, Jonathon Reuben became the Blackhawks leading all time point scorer with 194 (48 tries in his 42 games). This will be the 50th Cup game for Gulls forward Nick Harrold, who has previously played with Wynnum Manly and Burleigh.

Held to a 20-20 draw in their last match, the Mackay Cutters will be hoping to avenge their Round 9 loss to Norths where they were outclassed at home. The Devils secured a 34-10 win at BB Print Stadium, despite only leading by two points 12-10 at halftime. One of the try scorers in that game was winger Michael Lucas, who only needs one more try to move to second on Norths all time cup try scorers list passing Steve Bell and Kevin Carmichael on 45. Most is Daniel Ogden on 77. Both sides have been struggling to find their feet and a win in this game could really help put them on the right track. The Devils have lost their past five games, as well as their past four at home. Mackay too will have to break a losing streak after losing their past three away games.
