Valleys Roosters V Gatton Hawks

Valleys hosted Gatton in the Toowoomba Sports Club Match of the day at Herb Steinohrt Oval. The Roosters paceman, Travis Turnbull, and Aaron Sillitoe scored tries within the first seven minutes of the game to get the Roosters to an impressive start 12-0 but the game did settle down and Shannon Hicks grabbed a four pointer after 21 minutes to get the Hawks back in the game 12-6.

Dylan Chown and Sillitoe stretched Valleys lead to 20-6 with impressive tries and they went to the break in control of the match.

After the break, Steven Rodgers scored for Valleys with a bulldozing run to get the Roosters to 26-6. The Hawks mounted a mini-comeback when experienced players Dennis Burgoyne and Dom Haak crossed for soft tries to get the Hawks within eight points.

Player of the match Hnaloan Budden scored his double to put the game beyond doubt and Gatton’s Lachlan Gorman scored a consolation try just before the full-time hooter sounded.

The Roosters were very impressive but Gatton did show they are still a chance in this competition with some enterprising football.

The Hawks entered the game without stars Callum Woolacott and Billy Jackwitz but played effectively.

The Roosters speed and game plan won them the day. Coach Brett Seymour and Liam Capewell combined well to lead their side around the park with Turnbull, Sillitoe and Chown taking full advantage. Throw in Hnaloan Budden and you have a very nice win.

Valleys have a well-deserved break next round, whilst Gatton host Highfields.
