The Central Queensland community of Clermont is excited to host the CQ Capras and Redcliffe Dolphins this weekend as part of the Intrust Super Cup’s ‘Get in the Game’ Country Week.

A State Government initiative, this year’s Country Week will see Bamaga, Julia Creek, Munduberra, St George and Winton join Clermont as host venues with Intrust Super Cup action in their own backyards this weekend.

It's been five years since an Intrust Super Cup match kicked off in Clermont with the Capras last making the 381km journey west in 2013 against the Norths Devils.

Making it even more important for the community, this year has been a historic year for Clermont as the town commemorates 100 years since being washed away during the worst flood in Australian history in 1916, which claimed more than 60 lives.

Clermont Bears Secretary Candice McKie says the club is extremely excited about being able to host the Capras v Redcliffe Intrust Super Cup Country Week clash.

“This is a fantastic opportunity not only for our club but also the Clermont community,” said McKie.

“As always, we cannot thank our sponsors enough for their continued support and the endless hours spent by our volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure the success of these events.”

“The passion and pride that our club displays, especially around opportunities like this, are what we believe are the grassroots of rugby league.”

The town will be a hive of activity across the weekend with community events on Friday, including a coaching clinic for boys and girls aged 6-12 years from 4pm and a gala dinner on Friday night, raising funds for Clermont Bears player Mitch Wienert.

NRL Ambassador Dave Shillington will be in Clermont over the weekend to engage in the community events and local coaches and referees will also have the opportunity to upskill courtesy of the NRL Game Development team.

With this weekend being such a big occasion in Clermont, the Bears are also hosting a 10 year premiership reunion weekend for the victorious 2006/07 Bears Men's A Grade teams with a special reunion breakfast to be held on Saturday morning.

Games commence at 8.30am with junior action, followed by two Senior Women’s matches from 2pm ahead of the Intrust Super Cup match at 5.30pm.

To finish the night, the Clermont Bears Men’s team will face rivals Dysart Bulls at 7.30pm, with live entertainment by Luke Geiger to follow until midnight.
