The closest of Universities Rugby League Queensland ladders has been tightened again after some surprise results last week set up another exciting round tomorrow (Wednesday).

The Griffith Gold Coast Panthers shocked Australian Catholic University down on the Gold Coast, while two of the competition heavyweight played out a draw.

The Panthers proved again they can produce an upset at home, defeating ACU 24-10 down at Southport.

It kept their finals hopes alive, while the Hounds rebounded from their previous loss to ACU to snatch a draw with last year’s minor premiers, the Dragons.

It moved the Hounds up to an equal share of the competition lead with the QUT Trouts, although the Hounds have played an extra game.

QUT came from behind to run over the top of the Redbacks by 34-16 down at the Griffith Logan campus.

It sets up a big round on Wednesday night, with the ladder leaders QUT Trouts and UQ Hounds to collide at St Lucia.

ACU will host the Griffith Dragons at Banyo, while a southern derby between the Redbacks and Panthers will take place at Logan.
