It was a thrilling and close game, with the Norths Devils giving their fans plenty to cheer about in their upset 18-10 win the Falcons at Sunshine Coast Stadium yesterday.

The defensive effort from the Devils was highly praised by their coach Mark Gliddon who was proud with his side’s 80-minute effort.

“What got us across the line was our effort,” Gliddon said. “Unlike last week where we played for 40 minutes, this week was a full 80 and it was very pleasing.

“I was really pleased for the players, we defended our errors and controlled the ball which lead to good field position.

“It’s not an easy place to win on the Sunshine Coast … but it was our defence that got us across the line.”

Former Falcon Haydan Lipp was very passionate about playing this game against his old club and put on a great performance. He was perfect with the boot to help his side to victory.

“It’s one game that Haydan was very passionate about,” Gliddon said. “He was really wanting to be more involved (and) he kicked all the goals.”

The sides went into the sheds at halftime with the scores locked at 6-6, with the both sides determined to start the second half well.

It was a tense and scrappy match however, with Falcons winger Alex Copelin opening the scoring in the second half to put his side back in front.

Devils centre Luke Pollock then scored back-to-back tries in the closing stages of the half to put his team in the lead for the first time in the game and they went on to post the morale-boosting win.

With only two more weeks left of the regular season, the Devils are hoping to finish their remaining season with some strong performances.

Out with a bye next week, the Devils will return fresh for Round 25 against the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

“We are fortunate we don’t have to travel for the remaining weeks like they [Wynnum Manly Seagulls] do,” Gliddon said.

“This game will be our Old Boys reunion game and we will be hoping to finish the season on a high in front of (them),” Gliddon said.

“The Seagulls are a bit like us, they have been a bit inconsistent. But they are a strong side and they can play footy.”
