Nominations are closing soon for the 2017 Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year Award.

For the past nine years, the contest has highlighted some amazing celebrity "Sports Dads" in Australia and how they are inspirations on and off their sporting fields.

Johnathan Thurston was a popular winner in 2015.

This year, Philips are giving community Sports Dads of Australia the chance to be recognised in the same way for their wonderful achievements and the chance to be crowned the Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year.

Each Father's Day, the contest celebrates sporting fathers in Australia, professional and amateur, who are great examples on and off the sporting field.

Now you have a chance to recognise a local sports dad in your community to be crowned the 2017 Philips Community Sports Dad of the Year.

Whether it's a dad that coaches his local junior team, helps the local sports club with funding or support, or simply plays competitive sport on the weekend, now is the chance to highlight a father who's an inspiration to your local sports club and community.

Last year’s ambassador was JT.

“It’s great that there is a platform such as this for dads to be recognised,” Thurston said.

“Being a dad is the best job in the world so I applaud any father that gets in there and plays an active part in their child’s life. I hope to coach my girls’ sporting team in the future.”

To get involved and nominate your local dad, head to sportsdads.com.au/community and explain in 100 words or less why they think their chosen sports dad should be crowned the Community Sports Dad of the Year.

The Community Sports Dad of the Year winner will be provided with a $5000 Rebel Sports voucher to donate to his sporting club of choice for some new gear or sporting equipment.

Nominations are closing soon, so log on to sportsdads.com.au/community.

Nominations and entries end on Sunday, August 20, and the winner will be announced before Father's Day, Sunday, September 3.
