Panthers aim to snare Trouts

The Griffith Gold Coast Panthers will travel to Brisbane tonight to face the QUT Trouts in a position they have not been in for a long time.

The Panthers sit alone on top of the Universities Rugby League Queensland ladder.

The boys from the Coast can legitimately tag themselves the surprise packets of the Universities Rugby League Queensland competition after two straight victories to start the year.

Their opening-round win over ACU was a minor surprise, but last week’s 28-10 win over the Griffith Logan Redbacks was a warning shot across the bow of the entire competition.

Tonight they will meet a QUT Trouts side that pushed the UQ Hounds all the way at Purtell Park last week.

The Trouts are still searching for their first win of the year, but will be buoyed by their showing against the respected Hounds.

Australian Catholic University have their first home game of the year tonight after shocking the Griffith Dragons at Nathan last week.

The Dragons led 10-0 early but ACU ran them down and will be aiming to surprise the Hounds as well tonight.

At Logan the Griffith Dragons and Redbacks will battle, with both looking to put behind last week’s surprise losses.
