ARLC statement on Mark Coyne

Statement on behalf of Australian Rugby League Commission Chair, Peter Beattie

Today I met with Mark Coyne and he subsequently offered his resignation as a Commissioner on the Australian Rugby League Commission.

I have accepted his resignation.

Mark has put the game of rugby league ahead of his personal interests. That shows real character.

The Commission thanks him for the outstanding contribution he has made on the Commission and to the game more broadly over many decades.

Mark will not be lost to the game.  Mark will remain involved in rugby league at a grassroots level and I have invited him to remain on the NRL committee to oversee grassroots investment in the game.

The Commission expects the highest standards of behaviour from players in the NRL and as Commissioners we must set that example. Mark has shown his commitment to that principle.

I look forward to Mark continuing to make a significant contribution to the game for many years to come.
