The inaugural Army Tri-Nations Rugby League tournament will kick off this afternoon at Purtell Park with a big rivalry clash between the Australian Army and New Zealand Army.
Sponsored by the Gaythorne RSL and supported by the Queensland Rugby League and West Brisbane JRLFC, the opening match up in this men’s rugby league series will kick off at 5.30pm today (Thursday, October 10) and will be the first three games in the series.
The next game will take place on Sunday, October 13 at 2.30pm and will see the New Zealand Army in action again – this time against the British Army.
The final match of the series will be between the Australian Army and the British Army on Wednesday, October 16 at 4pm.
All games will take place at Purtell Park and are being hosted by Wests Brisbane Junior Rugby League Football Club.
Vice President of the Australian Army Rugby League, Major Paul Sos was thrilled to be part of the event.
“The hosting of this first ever Army Tri-Nations tournament is a significant achievement for Army Rugby League, and is the result of the hard work of our passionate and dedicated Committee past and present," Major Sos said.
"It is the first in what we hope to be many Tri-Nations tournaments and off the back of this event, we intend to increase awareness and participation in Army Rugby League.
"AARL are looking to expand its player, coach and sports trainer rosters and firstly encourage members to become involved locally with civilian clubs."
Entry is free to all three matches and canteen facilities will be available.
