Harvey Norman Jillaroos squad assembles on the Gold Coast

The Harvey Norman Jillaroos extended squad has assembled on the Gold Coast for a four-day intensive camp, as the team continues preparations for the year ahead.

Jillaroos coach Brad Donald has selected six potential 2020 Test debutants as part of the squad, as the team also narrows their focus ahead to their Rugby League World Cup defence in England next year.

“The World Cup is in November next year, which may sound like a lot of time, but it will fly by with plenty of domestic rugby league to be played between now and then,” Mr Donald said.

“Our World Cup defence started almost immediately after the Final in Brisbane in 2017 and we’ve covered a lot of ground since then.

“These camps are really important as we continue to prepare on and off the field and look ahead to a really exciting time for women’s rugby league.”

The Jillaroos will battle it out between  New Zealand, France and the Cook Islands in their World Cup Pool, with England, Papua New Guinea, Canada and Brazil rounding out the remaining teams on the other side of the draw.

The team will be aiming to create history in 2021, with the opportunity to claim a three-peat of World Cup wins in a row.

The team will also play a double-header Test Match later this year, when the Kangaroos and Jillaroos take on their respective New Zealand counterparts.  Details for the double-header will be announced later in the year.
