New contests emerge in SEQW competition

As excitement builds for Round 1 of the brand new Holcim Cup today at West Mitchelton, there's just as much exhilaration for southeast Queensland's other female competitions taking place this weekend.

After months of hard work and training, the South East Region female competition's senior teams will relish their opportunity to step foot onto the hallow turf to participate in their restructured competition for season 2020.

With many of last year's Division 1 competition teams in Burleigh Bears, Easts Tigers, Tweed Seagulls, Souths Logan Magpies and West Brisbane Panthers taking part in the elite level opportunity to return to the playing field following the cancellation of the BHP Premiership earlier this year; there have been three new contests created to feature a number of former Division 2 and 3 sides from last year's SEQ Women's competition.

On demand: Holcim Cup - Round 1

The re-design will now see teams compete in either the SEQW Premiership, SEQW Green or SEQW Orange pool.

This afternoon from 5pm, Runaway Bay host Carina at Bycroft Oval in the opening round of the SEQW Premiership, whilst Pine Central will wait in anticipation for their first match of the season next weekend.

In SEQW Green, Division 3 defending premiers Redlands Parrots host Aspley, and will be hoping to add to their success after claiming the honours last year with a hard-fought win over the Inala Panthers.

In the other matches, Ormeau travel to Mount Gravatt and Norths Ipswich face Beaudesert.

Meanwhile; in SEQW Orange, Pine Rivers Bears will open their season against Parkwood Sharks, while Mustangs Brothers will host Mudgeeraba Redbacks for their first match.

Normanby Hounds have an opening round bye and will be waiting in the wings for their first matchup next Saturday.

The wait wasn't as long for the junior girls competitions however, with the young players braving the torrential rain to play their first week of fixtures last Saturday.
