QRL statewide competitions update - June 29

Update - June 30: As there were no additional restrictions / extensions implemented this morning, all QRL statewide competitions will proceed as scheduled. The statewide competitions team will provide updates daily at noon.

...

Following the announcement that much of Queensland will go into a three-day lockdown from 6pm tonight until Friday, July 2, it has been decided to continue as planned with scheduled QRL statewide competitions matches for this weekend.

All 11 local government areas in South East Queensland, in addition to Townsville, Palm Island and Magnetic Island, will go into lockdown until at least Friday evening.

Round 12 of the Intrust Super Cup competition and Round 10 of the Hastings Deering Colts competition are expected to proceed as per the draw.

The QRL statewide competitions team have factored in a number of considerations leading to this decision:

  • All travel is scheduled for Saturday morning or later.
  • No restrictions have as yet been flagged post Friday at this stage.

As a contingency, the QRL may need to utilise the remaining bye weekend scheduled into the draw following the ‘Activate! Queensland’ Country Week weekend in Round 14, but the desire is to keep it free if possible.

Understandably, training for most participating clubs is restricted this week, but this may only affect one training session this week for most clubs.

A further update will be provided tomorrow morning if circumstances change, but at this stage, the plan is to proceed with games as scheduled this weekend.
