The Brisbane Broncos have added a mix of experienced and emerging NRLW stars as the club’s latest signings for the 2021 NRLW season.
Broncos NRLW Premiership winners Lavinia Gould and Amy Turner return for the Broncos, while new talent Sara Sautia, Toni Hunt and Lesa Kaleti Mataafa join the squad for the first time this season.
Gould was an integral part Brisbane’s opening two NRLW titles and played the opening two games of last season before being forced out with a leg injury, while Turner – an Olympic gold medallist from the 2016 Rugby Sevens – played at centre for the Broncos in the 2019 Grand Final win before taking last season off for the birth of her second child.
Of the new names, Sara Sautia is a backrower or middle forward who played in the Queensland Under 19 team against NSW last month, and Lesa Kaleti Mataafa is a powerful, hard-running forward who has played for the Queensland Reds. Hunt is a classy outside back with a touch football background and fresh from a great season with the Valleys Diehards in the BHP Premiership.
The five latest signings join 10 elite players already named as part of the 2021 Broncos squad – Ali Brigginshaw, Millie Boyle, Tamika Upton, Tarryn Aiken, Amber Hall, Chelsea Lenarduzzi, Julia Robinson, Tallisha Harden, Lauren Brown and Shenae Ciesiolka.
Broncos NRLW Coach Kelvin Wright said: “We have brought together a really talented and committed group of players who want to buy into our approach both on and off the field.
“Our latest five signings bring a wealth of experience and some exciting new talent well-equipped to excel at NRLW level.
“Lavinia and Amy have won premierships with us here at the Broncos, while Sara, Toni and Lesa have all the attributes to play important roles in our squad.”
The Broncos will begin their NRLW preparations in the coming fortnight, with the final positions in the squad to be finalised in the days ahead.
