QRL COVID-19 - Frequently asked questions
Here at Queensland Rugby League, we understand we’re in unprecedented times as we navigate our way through the public health emergency.
Like so many other sports, organisations and businesses, it’s a challenging time for all.
We recognise the rugby league community and fans of the game have many questions relating to COVID-19 and the impact it is having on the sport.
To help try and answer some of those, we have created this list of frequently asked questions for the 2020 season.
Season 2020 FAQs
Cancellation of four QRL statewide competitions
On March 27, the QRL took the unprecedented step to immediately cancel its four QRL statewide competitions. While heartbreaking for many, this decision was made in the best interests of the health and safety of all participants involved in the Intrust Super Cup, BHP Premiership, Hastings Deering Colts and Auswide Bank Mal Meninga Cup.
These competitions have extensive travel and accommodation requirements, meaning the re-commencement of fixtures was untenable in 2020. By making the call now, the clubs have certainty, and can commence planning for 2021 with support from the QRL.
What does this mean for the future of my club?
These are challenging times for all clubs, as well as the QRL. We are currently working with all statewide competition clubs to understand the organisational and financial impacts of the cancellation of the season.
Will community rugby league return?
We certainly hope so. As it currently stands, we have extended the suspension of all community rugby league activity until June 1, 2020, following the latest advice from our chief medical officer and the relevant authorities.
We’re fortunate to have such great volunteers who are providing incredible support to their members. We know that if circumstances allow, our leagues and clubs will adapt to ensure our players get the opportunity to play the game they love.
What will happen with the 2020 men’s State of Origin series and the women’s Origin match?
We know how much Queenslanders love the Maroons.
Despite the suspension of the NRL season, our coaches are in regular contact with the players to ensure they are in the best possible shape, both physically and mentally.
Based on current advice around COVID-19, the NRL Premiership has been rescheduled and the 2020 State of Origin series has been postponed.
All tickets purchased for the original dates will be honoured for the rescheduled dates. Once the new date is confirmed Ticketek will communicate to you and provide details of how to gain a refund should you not be able to attend the new date.
You can be assured that together with the NRL, we will work on all options within the advice to keep the Origin dream alive.
Is Maroons Shop still operating and can I still place an order?
Yes, our online store is operating as normal and you can still place orders.
Will COVID-19 affect my delivery?
There are currently no delays in dispatching your items. We will provide updates on MaroonsShop.com should this change.
How are you looking after your people during COVID-19?
Action has been taken to protect the health and safety of the workforce and customers in relation to the spread of coronavirus, in line with Australian government regulations.
Is it safe for my items to be delivered?
All Maroons Shop parcels are delivered by Australia Post.
In line with Australia Post guidelines, and to minimise the risk of contracting or spreading coronavirus, all parcels - be it at a post office or at a residence - will no longer require a signature for delivery or collection. Someone will need to be present at the residence for this to occur otherwise standard delivery procedures apply.
In all cases, whether a driver or postie delivers to the door or a customer goes into their local post office to collect a parcel, an Australia Post staff member will ask and record the customer’s name and acknowledge delivery in our system.
You will still need to be present for this to occur, but contact will be minimised by either leaving the parcel at the door until the driver or postie has left the premises or left for the customer to pick up on the counter.
We are committed to continuing delivery throughout this time and will keep you updated should any disruptions occur.

Is my item going to be delayed due to COVID-19?
With many people moving to online shopping as they self-isolate or sensibly avoid confined public spaces to protect themselves, Australia Post are seeing an uplift in parcels, which, coupled with a reduction in domestic flights, is resulting in some delivery delays.
We appreciate your support and patience during this time.
You will receive a tracking number within 48 hours of your order being placed. Please enter this into the Australia Post tracking tool to keep up to date with estimated delivery times.
What is the latest update on State of Origin ticketing and memberships?
For now, we ask that you stay patient and ensure your contact details are correct until further information can be communicated as we work through this uncertain time. We will provide updates as soon as we can.
Where can we still get rugby league content?
The QRL will be producing unique content during this period. We understand that our supporters will still want to view rugby league content and where possible we will help facilitate it. Player appearances in the media will still be encouraged through the self-isolation, subject to precautions. You can visit QRL.com.au, the Members Hub or our socials to stay connected and keep updated with the latest news.
I want to show my support for the Maroons, how can I do this?
Non-Ticketed Supporter Memberships are still be available to purchase, starting from $15.
MaroonsShop.com is also still open, and members are eligible to 10per cent off official merchandise.
I purchased a ticketed membership for the 2020 State of Origin series, what can I do to get a refund?
At this stage no announcement around 2020 State of Origin events has been made. In the event that a 2020 State of Origin event were to be cancelled, all ticket holders would be contacted as a priority to discuss next steps. We will continue to monitor the situation and any changes to event scheduling will be communicated ASAP.

A tender is currently underway to appoint the QRL licensed suppliers for the 2021-2023 seasons. The tender submission deadline has now passed and the QRL are currently reviewing all submissions with a view to announce the new licensees in July 2020.
