Biography

Ben Hannant played junior rugby league for Nerang Roosters and Burleigh Bears on the Gold Coast, before signing with the Sydney Roosters, making his NRL debut in 2005 and playing eight games in his rookie season.

He switched to the Brisbane Broncos in 2006 and came off the bench in their grand final win over Melbourne Storm.

Hannant made his State of Origin debut in 2008, joining fellow Maroons' legends, Nate Myles, Carl Webb and Petero Civoniceva in front-row rotation. Hannant regards Civoniceva as the biggest influence on his football career.

Hannant went on to win five series in a row with Queensland, from 2008 to 2012, playing 12 matches in Maroon.

It's a big honour to play for your state.

Ben Hannant FOG #165

The Burleigh Bears junior signed with Canterbury-Bankstown in 2009, and made his Test debut, as well as being named Dally M front rower of the Year. He played six Tests for Australia between 2009 and 2012. Hannant returned to the Broncos in 2011, and took on a leadership role.

Townsville was his next home - in 2015 - when he signed with North Queensland Cowboys, and he was part of their historic grand final win over the Broncos.

Hannant announced his retirement at the end of the 2016 NRL season, having played 245 NRL matches during a 12-year career.

Hannant made a comeback for the Burleigh Bears in the 2017 Intrust Super Cup. Hannant has made a name for himself in radio since he hung up the boots.
