Biography

Pittsworth product, Mark Hohn first hit the rugby league headlines as a member of the Toowoomba Clydesdales team, which defeated the touring Great Britain Lions in 1984.

A butcher, Hohn worked in the trade for three years at Pittsworth, where he played for the local club, the Danes. He had been vice-captain of a Queensland Primary Schools side, with another future Origin star, Michael Hagan the skipper. Future Test wicket keeper, Ian Healy was another member of the side.

Hohn toured New Zealand with the Allan Fitzgibbon coached Queensland Country squad in 1984, and the following year joined Valleys in Brisbane, captaining the club in 1987, when they were known as Seagulls Diehards. He toured New Zealand again, in 1987, with the Wayne Bennett coached Queensland Residents, and was named man of the tour.

The 1995 Origin team bonded better than any other Queensland team I had been in, and it was certainly the most relaxed camp.

Mark Hohn FOG #77

At the end of that season he had short stint with Hunslet, in England, before fronting up for training with the inaugural Broncos' squad. He was part of the Broncos' premiership winning sides in 1992 and 1993, coming off the bench in the 1992 grand final and starting in the front row in the 1993 decider.

Equally at home at prop or in the second row, he made his Origin debut in 1993, going on to play nine matches at that level, including all three matches in the incredible clean sweep, series win against New South Wales in 1995. Hohn played for Australia against France, at Parramatta Stadium, in 1994.

He switched from the Broncos to South Queensland Crushers in 1995, and was afforded a lap of honour, at his beloved Suncorp Stadium, after his farewell match - against Canterbury-Bankstown.

He had started an office business dealership in 1995, and by the end of the year, decided to concentrate on family and business matters.
