In 2004, Rick Stone was at the helm of a Burleigh Bears team which registered a now famous 22-18 extra time win over Easts Tigers.

It took nearly 18 minutes of extra time before Stone was finally able to celebrate.

The former Bears mentor will this weekend be involved in another grand final – this time with the Newcastle Knights who play Penrith Panthers in Sunday’s NSW Cup decider.

Stone will be the Knights’ head coach in 2015. But no matter how much success he tastes in the NRL, he will never forget the 2004 grand final epic.
