The Sunshine Coast lived up to its name in Day 1 of the TJS Services QRL State Junior Championships with a great day of rugby league played in picturesque conditions at the Sunshine Coast Council Sports Precinct, Kawana.

After Day 1 (Thursday, June 28), the Central Crows and Northern Marlins can’t be split on top of the ladder in the Under 14 Boys division following wins over both South East Queensland teams heading into Day 2.

With the carnival still in early days, both SEQ teams have a chance to gain some points with games against the ladder-leaders later today.

The Under 14 Girls Central team have given the locals something to crow about following their first-round performance against the Water Dragons, winning 28-4.

Following the bye yesterday, the Northern Marlins will be in action today against both Central and SEQ in a bid to make their mark on this year’s competition.

The Under 16 Boys left nothing on the field in the hope of securing a Maroons jersey for the curtain-raiser clash at State of Origin III.

Both Water Dragons sides secured wins yesterday against Central and Northern respectively, and head into Day 2 with SEQ White against Central and SEQ Green against Northern.

The SEQ Under 16 Girls were also able to secure wins against Central and Northern yesterday heading into the bye with the Crows and Marlins facing off today to secure their first points of the carnival.
