Safeguarding Children & Young People

Queensland Rugby League Commitment to Safeguarding Children and Young PeopleĀ

At Queensland Rugby League (QRL), the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is our highest priority. We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and positive environment where every child feels valued, supported, and protected.

QRL upholds the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and ensures that safeguarding is embedded in all aspects of our game. This includes:

  • Creating safe environments where children are respected, included, and have a voice.
  • Empowering children and families with accessible information, clear complaints processes, and support pathways.
  • Embedding cultural safety for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, children with disability, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, children who are refugees or asylum seekers, children unable to live at home, and LGBTQIA+ young people.
  • Providing training and resources so our staff, volunteers, and clubs can recognise risks, respond appropriately, and maintain child-safe practices.
  • Working in partnership with our clubs and communities to ensure safeguarding responsibilities are shared and upheld at every level of rugby league.
  • We are committed to continuous improvement, learning from the voices of children, young people, their caregivers, community, staff and volunteers, as well as implementing actions from complaint and incident management processes.

QRL will not compromise on child safety. We take all concerns seriously, act promptly on risks or incidents, and continuously strengthen our policies and practices to ensure rugby league is a safe, positive experience for every child in Queensland.

Every child has the right to feel safe, be safe, and thrive through their involvement in rugby league.
