The Dolphins and Knights both emerged from their Round 8 clash in Brisbane with injury concerns to senior front-rowers.

Newcastle lost Jacob Saifiti with 14 to play to what coach Adam O'Brien said was an ankle or Achillies injury, with the 27-year-old requiring crutches post-match.

Earlier back-rower Jed Cartwright was ruled out after he aggravated a pre-existing ankle problem, while winger Greg Marzhew is also in doubt for Round 9 after picking up an ankle injury of his own.

Dolphins captain Jesse Bromwich meanwhile will have scans after succumbing to a calf issue, with his younger brother Kenny having failed a HIA in the first half as well.

Cowboys coach Todd Payten is set for a stint without centre Tom Chester, who picked up a hamstring injury in the first half of Saturday night's match against Penrith.

Chester replaced PNG international Zac Laybutt, whose season ended two weeks ago after rupturing his ACL, but he limped from the field in the 28th minute and did not return.

"I asked the kid, 'how does it feel, is it bad', and he goes, 'yeah, it doesn't feel great'. He's done a couple of hamstrings in the past, that's the worst thing - that he has done it prior," Payten said.

Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall is hopeful injured captain Api Koroisau won't miss a match after suffering a back injury in Saturday night's 34-10 loss to Brisbane.

"He has got a pretty sore back, just a bit of nerve pain and damage, but Api thinks he is going to be okay for next week," Marshall said.

Koroisau failed to finish the match, along with Broncos stars Adam Reynolds, Reece Walsh and Jock Madden, who suffered a pectoral muscle injury.

Broncos coach Kevin Walters said Reynolds and Walsh merely had cramps, but he was more concerned for Madden.

"He has some sort of pec injury. It is not bad, but it is enough to put him in some doubt for next week," Walters said of Madden.

Melbourne winger Xavier Coates was ruled out of his side's win over the Rabbitohs on ANZAC Day with a hamstring injury, but isn't expected to be sidelined long-term.

The Maroons flyer left the field in the 34th minute clutching his hamstring. Coach Craig Bellamy said post-match he is hopeful it is a minor strain.

"If we had to, we would have put him back on, but we thought it was safer to leave him off," Bellamy said.

"Sounded like he might be a chance [next week], but I'll have to see how he progresses throughout the week."

Prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona also finished the game with a hamstring concern and is in doubt to return for next week's clash with the Gold Coast.

Earlier on Thursday, Dragons centre Moses Suli was ruled out of his side's loss to the Roosters after suffering a head knock in the opening tackle.

Suli was sent reeling out of a heavy collision while trying to tackle Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves as the Kiwis veteran returned the ball from the kick-off.

The Roosters lost veteran centre Michael Jennings just before half-time with a triceps injury that coach Trent Robinson confirmed post-match could sideline him for a few months. The club have said upon consultation with a specialist, it has decided to commence a period of non-operative rehabilitation.

The Roosters went into the match without Victor Radley (hamstring) and Daniel Tupou (knee) on top of their existing injury toll.

Knights skipper Kalyn Ponga will miss the next three months of the season after undergoing foot surgery following a lisfranc injury in Round 7.

Raiders halfback Jamal Fogarty had surgery on April 23 following his biceps injury suffered in Round 7, with the halfback now expected to be out of action for the next 12-14 weeks.
